The Arabian Institute (AIFAS) celebrated International Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) Week on 13 October 2026, highlighting the essential role of sterilisation services in infection prevention, patient safety and the delivery of quality healthcare.
The celebration featured educational presentations by AIFAS trainees, who shared their knowledge of CSSD operations, including the cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation processes involved in preparing medical instruments and equipment for safe use in healthcare facilities.
A key focus of the event was hand hygiene and infection prevention, reinforcing the importance of proper hygiene practices in reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections and maintaining a safe clinical environment.
The event also provided trainees with an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of CSSD procedures, strengthen their communication and presentation skills, and recognise the responsibilities of healthcare support professionals.
Through activities such as this, AIFAS continues to promote practical learning, professional awareness and competency-based training, supporting the development of a skilled healthcare workforce in the Sultanate of Oman.
The celebration recognised the valuable contributions made by CSSD professionals, whose work behind the scenes is fundamental to patient safety and effective healthcare delivery.
AIFAS extends its appreciation to the trainers and trainees who contributed to the celebration of International CSSD Week 2026.
